HAUGHTON - Fred C., 89, Davidsville, died March 9, 2013, at Laurel View Village. Born May 29, 1923, in Bolton, England, son of John and Annie (Entwistle) Haughton. Preceded in death by parents, and first wife, Florence (Kaufman). Survived by wife of five years, former Frances Charlile; daughter, Cheri, married to Cecil Lucas, Davidsville; grandson, Jeremy, and wife, Nicki Lucas; and great-granddaughter, Kira Lucas, all of Pittsburgh. Also survived by stepdaughter, Jodi, Beaverdale, and several stepgrandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a member of Tire Hill Church of the Brethren. He was an Air Force Veteran of World War II. He retired from the steel mill, was a stone mason and a jack of all trades. He was an avid car fan.

grand-daughter of Bracket and Mary Louise Barkley:
Bracket (named after his stepmothers surname), was the step child of Charles Bracket Barkley and Marion Josephine Mills Barkley who were married 25 April 1906 in New York City.
He was a well known attorney in NYC and a the time lived at 485 Park Avenue, Midtown, NYC. As very prominent residents of Manhattan, NYC they traveled (newspaper and ship manifest documents recovered) to many places. One such trip they often liked was to visit England. We were told, by his stepdaughter, he was born on a ship traveling from England to the United States as the Barkley's we're heading back home to NYC, that they "acquired" Bracket Barkley (details are not known). Apparently, as an attorney Charles B. Barkley sealed any documents related to his acquired or adoption of his son Bracket Barkley.
We do know that my grandfather Bracket Barkley did not know he was adopted until he visited his mother in NYC in 1942. He wanted to see his parents, as he was to be shipped out on D-Day. He was disassociated from from his parents since 1933, when he left home (exact reasons, are not known). Anyway when he went there to the Park Avenue residence, his mother came to the door, but he was told his father had died 01 February 1935. At this time, his mother told my grandfather, Bracket Barkley, that he was adopted. I'm sure this must my shocked my grandfather, who grew up well educated (graduate 1930 Irving Institute, private boarding school for boys in Tarrytown, New York) and most likely his father expected him to continue on his education to become a attorney, as himself.
Whatever prompted Bracket Barkley to leave home, one day, he joined the Army and became a career soldier. His 30 years advanced him to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer III. A veteran of WWII, (battle of the bulge) and European campaign, Korea and Viet Nam. Enlistment Date 16 February 1933 and separated 30 September 1961. Breckett married Mary Louise Kaiser Sweeney on 04 December 1937 ln Louisville, Kentucky, while he was stationed in nearby Fort Knox, Kentucky.
Breckett was a very down to earth guy and a very good grandfather. In short; he left a life that could have awarded him a very comfortable life, but for reasons unknown, he decided to 360 his life a become a soldier, husband, father and grandfather. Living a simple and comfortable life after his strict military career and settling down in San Antonio, Texas, until his death in 1994.
