ObituaryFeb 23, 1859Southern Intelligencer-23 Feb. 1859-"Died-Of consumption at the residence of his
brother I.A. Houghton, in Georgetown, Texas, on the 16th instant, Bemjamin S.
Houghton
, Esq., late of the New Orleans Bar, in the 31st year of his age. New
Orleans papers please copy. Georgetown, 6th Feb. 1859."
Note: Notice that J.A. Houghton was misspelled as I.A. Houghton. Also,
Benjamin's middle initial was listed as S. in the article. I'm not sure how to read his
death date from this. It seemed to me that he died on the 16th of the month and
that the article was in the Georgetown paper on 6 Feb. 1859. The article made it to
the Southern Intelligencer on 23 Feb. 1859. I wonder if this means that he actually
died on 16 Jan. 1859 and it was reported in Georgetown on 6 Feb. 1859. Until I
know more, I'll use that death date.
