  Secondly, there were banns read in St Aidan's parochial chapel, Billinge, for William Houghton and Ann Gore, both described as "of this parish" (which could be construed as the parish of Wigan). The banns were published on December 2nd, 9th and 16th 1821 and the couple were married on the 17th December 1821. It is to be noted that both William and Ann were aged under 21, so perhaps there was some parental disapproval which resulted in the marriage being not too close to home.¹
