EmailApr 2, 2022CJV asked him in an email about Baronet Bernard de Hoghton: "Charles,
I started to get to know the wonderful man that is Sir Bernard, and slowly the family, and just happened to tell him how I use DNA to help confirm lines, as I had not loaded the tree to your site as of yesterday. But the matches confirmed the same lines as in my MyHeritage site. (Now trying to load) In our conversation which was on the Battlements of Hoghton Castle on a sunny Spring day two weeks ago. He, feels some things a private as do as after all he is in the public eye.
However, to be fair, as a believer in DNA matching. If and when DNA comes into the conversation with Sir Bernard again when I am there, see why he has the reluctance. But that will take time.
As he treats me like a distant relative, which I am many generations, and warmly with it. I plan at least two more trips this year, and many more.
I know Ralph is the issue here, and even I am on the fence on that one, if he survived the Battle of Preston in Feb 1643, may have escaped to the New World. Will never know. And in my tree have quite of few Houghton's who got out of Dodge to the US over a couple of centuries.
Please feel free to write , and if I can help will, only have to keep a balance when it comes to family.
Best regards Jeff
He brought you up, so obviously: Sir Bernard said " Have you heard of the Houghton project Run by Charles Vella" and I replied that I had and am a member, and the conversation went from there."

ObituaryWilliam 'Bill' F. Schafenacker, 96, of Muscatine, died on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at Lutheran Homes, after living a long, happy, and accomplished life.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 24, 2011, at Grace Lutheran Church. Reverend's Gary McManus of Grace Lutheran Church and Dr. Bruce Ursin of Wesley United Methodist Church will officiate the service. There will be a lunch served in the social hall at the church following the Memorial Service, at which time Bill's family will meet with friends.

Private Family Burial will take place in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be left to the Grace Lutheran Church, Wesley United Methodist Church, or Lutheran Homes.

His family includes Millie, his wife of 20 years; Judy Baker and John, of Davenport, Jim Bready of Newbury Park, California, Joan Bready and Don, of Alexandria, Virginia, Mary Bready of Lake Elmo, Minnesota, and Hale Basaran of Istanbul, Turkey; grandchildren are Mary Beth Alexander, Keith Baker, Sara Baker, Laura Resch, Andy Bready, and Alex Bready; and great-grandchildren, Brett Baker, Evan and Emma Alexander, Greta Brus, and James Bready.

Mr. Schafenacker's lifelong interest was his work at Kent Feeds. He started there in 1946, and became General Manager in 1973. During these years he helped the company grow from one building on the river in Muscatine, to one of the largest feed companies in the Midwest.

He really loved getting to know so many people throughout the United States during his life. He served as President of the American Feed Manufactures, Chairman of the Board of Directors and represented them at the White House. He was a member of Rotary International Club, 33 Club, many bridge clubs, and a poker club.

Mr. Schafenacker grew up in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and played basketball and baseball at Franklin College. He was a meteorologist in World War II, in the US Army Air Corps. His first wife, Barbara, died in 1989.

He was very active at Grace Lutheran Church and helped raise the money for the present building. For many years he was a patient advocate at the Lutheran Homes. With a co-chairman, he helped raise the money for the Alzheimer's wing in memory of his sister, Jane.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, loving life, and hard work for all of his family and friends to remember.

We think he got a better invitation for Christmas.
