SPRINGFIELD — Margaret Jeanne Carroll of Springfield died May 14 of age-related causes. She was 96. A graveside service will be held in Bellingham, Wash.

She was born Jan. 17, 1915, in Bellingham to Joseph and Margaret Fyfe Houghton. She married George Carroll in 1939 in Entiat, Wash; he died in 1998.

She was trained as a ballerina and graduated from Western Washington College with a teaching degree. She taught school and ran a dance studio.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Cochran of Springfield; two sons, Joe of San Diego and Pat of Lynnwood, Wash; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Arrangements by Andreason’s Cremation & Burial Services in Springfield.

Peggy Houghton, 81, of Oswego Place in Oswego, Ore. died April 18, 2007 of age related illness. She was the daughter of John and Edna Conn Wienert. Peggy graduated from Salem High School and attended Willamette University and Oregon State University, and was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and later very active in the Junior League. After her husband, Lagrande "Hote" Houghton's death in Medford, Ore. in February 1993, she moved to Newport in September 1994 and then to Oswego in 2007. Peggy loved her garden, tennis, golf and bridge. Her many friends and family will miss her. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hote; son Terry; and brother Jack C. Wienert. Peggy is survived by sons Michael Houghton, Tom Houghton and William Gray; six grandchildren; a sister Bette Ouderkirk; two nieces; and four nephews.¹
