Harry Stokes officiating. The bearers were John Houghton, William Houghton. Leonard West, sons of the deceased, and a nephew, Cecil Parker, of Newcomb. Besides her husband she is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Noah LaCass and Miss Isabelle Houghton, both of Newcomb, and Miss Cora Houghton, of this place; also five sons, all of whom reside at this place—John, William, Luther and Homer Houghton, and Leonard West, and two sisters, who reside at Newcomb, Mrs. D. Braley and Mrs. John Griffin.

WESTFIELD, N.Y. — Mary Elizabeth Wells, 94, West Main Street, Westfield, formerly of Orchard Park, N.Y., died Thursday, April 5, 2001, at Westfield Memorial Hospital.

She was born Nov. 17, 1906, in Buffalo, N.Y., daughter of the late Frederick W. and Ruth Little Houghton.

She graduated from Buffalo State Teachers College, then moved to Westfield in 1972. She was a homemaker and was associated with Episcopal churches throughout western New York, including St. Peter Episcopal Church in Westfield, and aided the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.

She enjoyed genealogy and helped restore Littles Corners Cemetery in Crawford County. She also enjoyed reading, sewing and baking.

She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. James E. Wells; and a son, James E. Wells III.

Survivors include a daughter, Joanne Nixon and her husband, Alastair, of Westfield; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; four nephews; and 11 nieces.

There will be no calling hours. A service will be held Monday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter Episcopal Church, Westfield, officiated by the Rev. Eldwin M. Lovelady, rector.

Burial will be at Maplewood Cemetery, Springville, N.Y.

Arrangements are being handled by the Mason Funeral Home, 37 Clinton St., Westfield.

Memorials may be made to the St. Peter Episcopal Church Endowment Fund, 12 Elm St., Westfield, NY 14787; or the Patterson Library, South Portage Street, Westfield, NY 14787.2
