Richard Lee Houghton
Richard Lee Houghton, age 74 of Massillon, Ohio passed away Monday afternoon in the Hospitality House following a brief illness. Born in Canton, Ohio on October 14, 1930 he was the son of the late, Hugh and Helen (Allman) Houghton. He was a retired employee of the Timken Co., retiring in 1987 after 38 years of service. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Houghton. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Jr. and Sandy Houghton of Spring Valley, CA, Randy and Pam Houghton of Uhrichsville, OH, Rodney Houghton of Wooster, OH and Robert and Josette Houghton of Louisville, OH; daughter and son-in-law, Stephanie and Brent Fowler of California. There are 17 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren; two brothers, David Houghton of Tennessee and Robert Houghton of Alabama. Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 1 p.m. in the Reed Funeral Home Canton Chapel with Rev. Raymond Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Union Lawn Cemetery in Navarre. Calling hours at the funeral home one hour before services on Friday from 12-1 p.m.

Twila A. Houghton
Age 92, of Canton, passed away Friday, March 27, 2015, in McKinley Health Care Center. She was born in Canton, a daughter of the late Orlo and Cornelia (Goodrich) Geib, and was a life resident. Twila was a member of Dueber United Methodist Church.
Preceded in death by her husband, Hugh W. Houghton, on Feb. 18, 1983. Survived by her daughter, Dorothy Butler, of Canton; her son and daughter-in-law, Edwin and Thelma Houghton, of Dayton; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, Lori Ann and Greg Bossick and daughters, Faith and Lucy Casler and Annabele Bossick, of Mogadore, and Michael and Kelly Houghton, and their children, Ashton and Avery, of Vandalia, Ohio.
Services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Formet-Clevenger & Gordon Funeral Home with Dr. Chester Harris officiating. Interment in Sunset Hills Burial Park. Friends may call one hour before the services on Monday from 10-11 a.m.

Salina Journal February 9, 1977 Longtime Beloit newsman dies BELOIT - Alan B. Houghton, 55, publisher of the Beloit Daily Call, died Tuesday at the Mitchell County hospital here. Mr. Houghton was born Feb. 11, 1921, at Beloit, where he lived all his life. He was graduated from the Kansas University school of journalism in 1943, and was commissioned by the US Navy, which he served in both the Pacific and Mediterranean theaters during World War 2. He was commander of an LST, a naval landing craft. He returned to Beloit and coached basketball 2 years at St. John's high school. He joined his father, Harry K., on the staff of the Call in 1948. In 1953 he and Delmar Wicks bought the newspaper, and in 1968, Mr. Houghton became sole owner. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and American Legion posts, Beloit; he was a charter member and past-president of the Mitchell County Historical society, served the Beloit Rotary club 10 years as secretary, and was a member of the Beloit County club, Beloit Elks lodge and the Kansas Press association. Surviving are the widow, Carole, of the home; 2 daughters, Mrs. Anne Hilt and Mrs. Jeanne Hiserote, both of Beloit, and 4 grandchildren. The funeral will be at 10:30 am Thursday at the McDonald funeral home, Beloit, the Rev. Edward A. Piper officiating. Burial will be in the Elmwood cemetery, with VFW and American Legion military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to the Heart Fund.
