Deceased Name: AUSTIN HOUGHTON TRUCK DRIVER, FISHERMAN
SWAMPSCOTT - A memorial service will be conducted in First Church in Swampscott Congregational at 2 p.m. Sunday for Austin S. Houghton, a retired truck driver for the Sunoco Oil Co.

Mr. Houghton died Saturday in Union Hospital in Lynn after a brief illness. He was 70.

A lifetime Swampscott resident, Mr. Houghton, a fisherman and part-time lobsterman, once landed a 700-pound tuna using a hand line from a 14-foot dory off Cape Ann, his son, Jerrold of Salem, recalled.

Mr. Houghton, who retired from the oil company in 1963 after 27 years of service, built small boats as a hobby and gave them to friends after he used them once or twice for fishing.

He was graduated from Swampscott High School in 1935 and recently attended his 50th class reunion. He was captain of the football team when he was a senior.

Mr. Houghton was a member of the Danvers Fish and Game Association and the Swampscott Club, a social club.

Besides his son Jerrold, he leaves two other sons, David of Provincetown and Charles Houghton of Bath, Maine; a daughter, Claire Girard of Revere; and eight grandchildren.
