The Merwin family has passed down through the generations a desk originally owned by James Merwin (b. June 5, 1777 in Haddam, CT - d. February 13, 1865 in Leyden, NY). This treasure has recently come into our possession, and we have discovered a signature (Samuel Haughton) on the back of one of the smaller drawers. At worldconnect.rootsweb.com, we find a Samuel Haughton of Norwich Connecticut, born 21 Feb 1734/35, died about 3 October 1768. Do your records indicate if he or any other Haughtons were cabinetmakers in the area?
