Per Nourse and Boston Transcript, 12/24/1924, Ephraim Sawyer of Lancaster, husband of Eunice Houghton. He was baptized, an adult with wife Eunice and two children, Mary and Katherine, into the church at Lancaster on April 19, 1724.

Boston Transcript, 2/2/1925: Ephraim (3) Sawyer...was descended from Nathaniel (2), born Dec. 24 1670, died Nov.10 1756; and Mary ---. Nathaniel (2) was youngest son of Thomas (1) Sawyer, Sr., born in England, 1616; died at Lancaster, Sept. 12, 1706; married, in 1648, May, born in England, daughter of John Prescott of Shevington and Sowerby, Yorkshire, England who went to Barbados, 1638; to New England, 1640; founder of Lancaster, Mass., baptized 1604-5; died 1681; married, Jan. 21, 1629, at Wygan, England, Mary Platts...The date of birth of Ephraim (3) is not shown on Lancaster vital records, but was probably about 1696, as he was third son of Nathaniel (2) and Amos, his oldest brother, was born in 1693...in November, 1750, announced intentions of marriage with Mrs. Sarah Richardson...Ephraim (3), baptized with his wife Eunice as adults 1724, is titled lieutenant at different places in the records, so evidently he performed military service. He is the only one of the four Ephraims who could have been captain in 1746, and is undoubtedly the Ephraim mentioned on page 23 of the Military Annals of Lancaster, 1740-1865, by N.S. Nourse, which says that on Oct. 10, 1746, Lancaster Council issued a warrant: To Capt. Ephraim Sawyer and the company in His Majesties Service on the Frontiers, the sum Two hundred and nine pounds, two shillings and nine pence (to each person the sum set against his name) to discharge his muster roll beginning May 16, 1746, and ending June 30, 1746.

Boston Transcript, 2/2/1925: Lieutenant Colonel Ephraim was at Bunker
Hill...baptized April 20, 1728-29, son of Ephraim (3) and Eunice Houghton, was major in Colonel Asa Whitcomb's regiment in 1775 and later was lieutenant colonel in colonel Josiah Whitney's (Second Worcester County) regiment and in Colonel James Converse's regiment of militia. Was in siege of Boston, Battles of Bunker Hill, Dobb's Ferry, Tarrytown, and probably Saratoga. Four of his sons, one of them Ephraim (5), were in the Revolution.

Boston Transcript, 2/9/1925:Ephraim (4) served as colonel in the Revolution
from the Battle of Lexington to the close. Four of his sons were commissioned officers in the Revolution. He went to Grand Isle Co., Vt., 1786, with his family. Died at South Hero, Vt., 1813. He and his wife are both buried there.¹¹

Boston Transcript, 11/17/1924: The name of Richard Wilder is mentioned in the settlement papers [1726 probate of Jonas Houghton] twice as husband of Ruth, first in agreement of heirs, signed Oct 29, 1723, when Sarah is mentioned as a widow--as the cemetery records give Mary's death (his first wife) as Dec. 31, 1720. This would indicate a second marriage. [ had first wife, named Mary, who died in 1720]

BT, 12/8/1924, 2311, GAGL: there is no Richard Wilder mentioned in the Lancaster book of births, but there was Richard Wildes, who had a wife Ruth.⁹
