She was born in Ripley, N.Y., May 23, 1900, daughter of the late
Elton and Fannie Houghton Ottaway.

She had lived in Harborcreek since 1921.
She was a member of the Harborcreek United Presbyterian Church
where she had previously been in the Ladies Auxiliary. She and her
husband had the Woodlawn Tourist Home at their residence for more than
25 years.

She had previously worked at General Electric in bookkeeping. She
enjoyed bowling for many years and sewing.

She was preceded in death May 28, 1985, by her husband, Ross E.
Wood.

Survivors include a daughter, Jean L. Willis of Millcreek; two
sisters, Frances Jones of Millcreek and Marjorie Collins of Ripley,
N.Y.

Burial will be at Quincy Cemetery in Ripley, N.Y.

They lived in Harborcreek, Erie, PA. and Ross was a machinist. She is buried in the Quincy Rural Cemetery in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY.

Daughter: Jean Lorraine Wood (1922 - 2007) was born and raised in Harborcreek, Erie, PA. She was a clerk in Erie, Erie, PA in 1942. She married Mr. Willis. She died in Erie, Erie, PA. She is buried in the Erie Cemetery, Erie, Erie, PA.2

Note1923She married Grover Edward Jones (1894 - 1972) from Geneva County, Alabama on June 26, 1923 in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY. Grover served in the Army in WW1. They lived in Erie from the mid 1920's to the mid-1930's and Grover was a salesman. Grover was the manager of a tire shop in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY in 1944. They are buried in the North East Cemetery in North East, Erie, PA. Children: 1) Donald F. Jones; 2) Larry Dale Jones.2

ObituaryFrances H. Jones, age 104, of Millcreek and formerly of Ripley, NY, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at Manchester Presbyterian Lodge after a brief illness. She was briefly employed at General Electric before marrying and working as a housewife. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church and a past member of Columbine Chapter No. 260 OES and Jethra White Shrine of Jerusalem No. 12. She was also a member of the CHOSEN Mission Project. She was a wonderful seamstress and loved to sew and crochet. She made comforters and numerous and varied sewn items as gifts. She was always involved in craft projects such as Christmas decorations, shell jewelry, and wall hangings. Like her mother before her, she was a
wonderful cook and tried to accommodate each person’s likes and dislikes. In earlier years she and her family were heavily involved in canning and preserving the summer crops. Her basement was lined with shelves to hold her various canned vegetables, fruit juices, relishes, catsup, jams, jellies, and canned meats. Her husband, Grover Edward Jones; son, Donald F. Jones; two sisters, Eleanor Wood and Marjorie Collins; and a nephew, Bill Collins, preceded her in death. She is survived by a son, 3 grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren, a niece, and many other great-grandchildren and great nieces and nephews.
Interment North East Cemetery.

BiographyMarjorie Ottaway Collins, 92, of West Main Road, died Saturday (March 8, 2003) in the Waters of Westfield.
She was born Jan. 10, 1911, in Ripley, the daughter of Elton and Fannie Houghton Ottaway. She married Walter Collins (1912 - 1983) on June 20, 1940 in Westfield, Chautauqua, NY.They lived in Westfield. She was an elementary school teacher and an avid genealogist. A Ripley resident most of her life, she attended Ripley Schools and College in Erie, where she earned her degree as an elementary teacher. She was employed as a teacher in the Sherman schools, as a fourth-grade teacher in the Westfield district and retired from Westfield Academy and Central School in 1972 after many years of teaching. She was a member of the ''School Belles'' and the New York State Retired Teachers Association. An accomplished genealogist, she researched her family tree to its earliest settlers in this county and was very active in the Ripley community in various civic affairs. She was known to her family as a town activist. She is survived by her daughter-in-law and caregiver, Diana Collins of Ripley; three grandchildren: William C., Darlene and Ken Collins, all of Ripley; two great-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Frances Jones of Erie. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Collins, who died in 1984; a son, William W. Collins in 1998; and a sister, Eleanor Woods. They are buried in the Quincy Rural Cemetery in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY. Son: William Walter Collins (1942 - 1998) He is buried in the Quincy Rural Cemetery in Ripley, Chautauqua, NY.
