ObituaryDonna Mae Roberts, age 85, of Iowa Falls, died on Monday October 22, 2012 at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City. Memorial Services will be 11:00 AM Saturday October 27, 2012 at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with a Private family burial. Visitation will be from 9:30-11AM the morning of the service Saturday at the Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls.

Donna Mae Roberts, 85, of Iowa Falls, died Monday, October 22, at Mercy Hospital in Mason City. She was born on October 3, 1927 to Frank and Ethel ( Houghton) Modlin in Eldora. She grew up on a farm south of town and graduated from Iowa Falls High School in 1944 as she received an attendance honor for not missing a single day of school in four years. The next four years she worked as a secretary for Purina Mills.

She then met Darrah Lewis Roberts at The Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake. They were wed on September 18, 1948 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. In 1951 daughter Linda was born in Murphysboro, Tenn. while she was there with Darrah as he served in the United States Air Force.

In 1953 she helped buy and they moved to their farm three miles East of Iowa Falls at Farmland Corner where she lived for the next fifty-nine years being a housewife and wonderful mother. In 1955 daughter Deborah was added and in 1959 son John.

Donna Mae was affiliated with many area organizations where she performed her duties whole-heartedly. The American Legion Auxiliary Hyman-Peavey Post #188 in Iowa Falls where she served as President, Third District President, Department Historian and on many other committees. She was also a member if Iowa Falls Women's Club where she acted as Treasurer, the local Bureau of Professional Women and was a devoted member of the Hardin County Democratic Committee where she acted as Secretary for many years. She will be sorely missed in every life she touched.

She is survived by: her son John Darrah Roberts and his adopted son Cody Garret Brus of Iowa Falls; daughter, Linda Joyce (Liam) Forristal and grandsons Brian, Robert and Brendan of Greenbelt, MD; a son-in-law Richard Arp and granddaughter Amanda of Clutier and grandson Christopher of Charles City; a nephew Frank Hensing of Iowa Falls and niece Kate Lyon of Muscatine.

Proceeded in death by: her father and mother, her sister, Dorothy (Modlin) Hensing, husband, Darrah L. Roberts and her daughter, Deborah Roberts Arp.

ObituarySep 11, 2016Fairport: Marjorie A. Wamer, 80, of 58 Park Circle Drive, Fairport, New York, passed peacefully on 25 August, 2016, at the Fairport Baptist Home, after a long illness.

Marge was born 21 September 1935, at Amsterdam, New York, the daughter of Earl and Hazel Cantine Houghton. She graduated from Gloversville High School, Class of 1953. She worked in the Gloversville School System as a secretary for several years, and later at Eastman Kodak Company in ' Rochester, as a secretary for several years. She married Rand Wamer 24 August 1957 at North Main Street Methodist Church, Gloversville, where they both sang in the choir. They moved to the Rochester, New York area in the fall of 1957. Marge was a highly respected and loved wife, mother, surrogate mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and great aunt, and was most revered by her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandson, nieces, and nephews.

Marge was a 58-year member of Asbury First United Methodist Church in Rochester, where she had been active in many activities over the years until recently; including Asbury Storehouse, Asbury Dining & Caring Center, Altar Guild, United Methodist Women Church Women United, Children's Ministry, Family Council, Double Ring Class, Fellowship Class, and Fifty Plus Fellowship Class. Marge volunteered at the Asbury Storehouse nearly 45 years, holding many positions, and also co-chairing their annual Basement Sale fund raiser for many years. Marge volunteered at the Asbury Dining & Caring Center for nearly 20 years, serving meals to the homeless. She also helped Asbury with refugee resettlement for Carnbodians, Laotians; and Vietnamese immigrants for years. She was active in philanthropy on many fronts. Marge was active for many years with the Rochester Chapter of National Railway Historical Society and the Genesee Valley Antique Car Society; helping both organizations for many years with different activities and events. She had played girl's basketball at Gloversville High School, was an avid Buffalo Bills football fan, bowled with the Two Timers League in Fairport, and enjoyed the Fairport Red Hat Ladies group.

Marge is survived by her husband of 59 years, Rand; brother, Donald Houghton of Mayfield; daughters, Wendy Corso of Macedon, Cheryl Wamet of Fairport; son, Gary Wamer of Bradenton, Florida; grandchildren, Nichole Corso-Green of Vero Beach, Florida, Nathan Corso of East Rochester, Nadine Corso of Macedon, Evan Warner and Mark Wamer of Bradenton, Florida, and great-grandson, Dominic Corso of East Rochester; plus many nieces and nephew, and step nieces. Marge was pre-deceased by her brother, David Houghton and her step-brother, Arthur Houghton. Marge loved her God, loved her family, and loved her fellow man. The world is surely a better place for her passing through. She will be dearly missed, but never forgotten.

A memorial service for Marge will be held at Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on 18 September 2016, at 2:00 pm. Donations in honor of Marge in lieu of flowers may be made to Asbury First United Methodist Church, 1050 East Avenue, Rochester, New York 14608, or to Fairport Baptist Home, 4646 Nine Mile Point, Road, Fairport, New York, 14450.

She attended the University of Wisconsin, graduating in 1952. She married H. Richard Doke in 1952 and subsequently lived in Evanston, IL and Detroit, MI before settling in Milwaukee in 1963. Dottie lived in Milwaukee for 43 years, where she was active in the following: American Cancer Society, St. Michael Hospital, ABCD (After Breast Cancer Diagnosis), North Shore Congregational Church, and the V.N.A. (Visiting Nurse Association). Dottie married Richard H. Searle and moved to San Antonio, TX in 2006. Preceded in death by her parents, Donald Houghton and Amy Stebbins, and her sister Patricia (Ned) Trethaway. She is survived by her children, Andrew Houghton Doke, Heather E. Soener (Roger), and Amy Amber Doke (Stephen Bertolas-Jeske), and three grandchildren, Paul, Michael, and John Soener. Services with private burial will be at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. A memorial service celebrating Dottie's life will be held at 1pm on Saturday December 9th at North Shore Congregational Church, Fox Point WI.
