Captain William H. Houghton, who has served fourteen years as chief of the Federal Secret Service in Philadephia, has been appointed chief of the New York office and will arrive here on Friday, it was announced last night.
Captain Houghton will succeed Alan G. Straight, former head of the New York office, who was transferred to Detroit recently at his own request.
Captain Houghton, who was born in London in 1881, has been with the secret service since 1911. During the World War he brought about the arrest of many persons suspected of sabotage, espionage and incendiarism. During the Teapot Dome investigation he traced $300,000 worth of Liberty bonds to former Secretary Albert B. Fall.³
