Died: Friday, April 23, 2004

Sally Ann Houghton, 63, Georgetown, died Friday, April 23, 2004, at Kindred Hospital at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

A native of Louisville, born Oct. 25, 1940, she was the daughter of the late Emmett and Maurice Gray Graft.

She was a landscape designer and artist of miniature estates, and a member of St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lanesville and Kentuckiana 56er?s.

Survivors include her husband, William T. Houghton of Georgetown; a son, Gregg Houghton of Carmel; three daughters, Victoria Ann Houghton of Georgetown, Cindy Messmer of Corydon and Julie Coleman of Greenville; two brothers, James and Thomas Graft, both of Louisville; a sister, Elois McClary of Lexington, Ky., and six grandchildren.

A prayer service was held Sunday, April 25.

Funeral: Monday, April 26, at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial in St. Mary?s Catholic Church in New Albany.

HOUGHTON, MRS. ROSEMARY M. Newaygo rs. Rosemary M. Houghton, age 82, passed away on Wednesday, April 21, 2004 at her home surrounded by her husband and son. She was born on August 25, 1921 in Kent City, MI., the daughter of Arthur & Rosalie H. (Schumacher) Bjork. She married Ted Houghton on December 23, 1945 in Newaygo. She was a graduate of Newaygo High School and Western Michigan University. She commenced her teaching career in a rural one room school house in 1941. Her career at Newaygo started in 1943 and ended when she retired in 1976. From 1966 to 1976 she performed her duties as Principal of Vera Wilsie Elementary School in Newaygo. As a teacher, she touched many lives of the local population, and her bright smile and unique personality will be missed. She was also a member of the Newaygo United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ted of Newaygo; her son, Steven M. & his wife Brenda L. Houghton of Sarasota, Florida; her granddaughter, Holly J. and her husband Joe Tomassini of Chicago, Illinois; and her grandson, Chad M. Houghton of Sarasota, Florida. She was preceded in death by her sister, Margaret Nies in 1991. Funeral Services will be 2:00 PM on Saturday, April 24, 2004 at the Newaygo United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandra Spahr officiating. Interment will be in Newaygo Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Kroeze Funeral Home in Fremont from 2-4 & 7-9 PM on Friday (today). Newaygo - Mr. Theodore (Ted) Houghton, age 84, passed away on Tuesday, February 14, 2006 at his home surrounded by his son Steven and long time friend and fishing buddy Pastor Jim Boehm. He was born on August 27, 1921 in Muskegon County, MI, the first son of a family of 12 to Vester and Elsie Houghton. He married Rosemary M. Bjork on December 23, 1945 in Newaygo. He gave seven years of his life to the United States Navy fighting for the Country he loved. He was aboard the USS West Virginia battleship during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor December 7, 1941. After Pearl Harbor he was reassigned to the USS Case and fought in every major battle in the South Pacific during the remainder of WW II. He saw the historic scene of the American flag being raised over Iwo Jima. After the War he worked for Consumer Power Company as a Certified High Pressure Welder until he retired in 1976. He built his own house in Newaygo in 1953 and has been a citizen of that community ever since. All those whose life he touched will not soon forget his quick wit and charm. He was an active member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Association. He was a member of the Newaygo United Methodist Church. He is survived by his son, Steven M. and Brenda L. Houghton of Sarasota, Florida; granddaughter, Holly J. and her husband Joe Tomassini of Chicago, Illinois; his grandson, Chad M. Houghton of Sarasota, Florida; and brothers and sisters. He was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Rosemary M. Houghton in 2004. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Newaygo United Methodist Church with Pastor Sandra Spahr officiating. Interment will be in Newaygo Cemetery.
