ObituaryMass will be celebrated for Richard E. Houghton, 87, of Lufkin Friday, July 14, 2017 at 11 a.m. at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Joe Kannampuzha officiating. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Carroway Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. Thursday evening at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. Mr. Houghton was born July 8, 1930 in Boston, Massachusetts to the late Grace (Morin) and Cornelius Houghton, and died Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at The Joseph House in Lufkin. Formerly of Boston, Massachusetts and Fairhope, Alabama, Mr. Houghton had resided in Lufkin for three years. He graduated with high honors from the Northeastern University College of Business Administration in 1955, and retired as Vice President of Eaton Vance in Boston after 40 years of employment. Mr. Houghton was an accomplished sailor and enjoyed sailboat racing. He won the Northeast District Championship, Flying Scott Division in Quincy Bay in 1971. He had been President of the Cohasset Sailing Club, where he taught young people how to sail. Mr. Houghton was known for his wit and humor. He was a member of St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church. He is survived by his wife, Monique Houghton of Lufkin and numerous relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Amy Houghton Wynn. Memorial contributions may be made to The Joseph House, P.O. Box 150554, Lufkin, Texas 75915 or St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, 1611 Feagin Drive, Lufkin, Texas 75904. The family will welcome friends and loved ones from 5:30 to 6 p.m. Thursday evening at St. Andrew the Apostle Catholic Church, prior to the Rosary.
