Obituary On February 9, 2004, Mark A. Houghton went to meet his Lord. Mark was born in Eugene, Oregon, August 2, 1957. He lived out his life in Las Cruces. He had lived a full life with lots of friends and people who had known him and loved him. He was a great man that accomplished a lot in his short lifetime including being an acolyte at St. James as a teen, being an ordained minister in the city of Las Cruces and helping with the Space Shuttle projects at NASA for about 16 years. He was and is a great Father, Grandfather, and friend!
His survivors include his father Frank E. Houghton, his sister Elizabeth Houghton Wellborn and husband William, his Aunt Marguerite Houghton of Fitchburg Mass., Soes Frank and Brian Houghton and Brian?s wife Jessica Houghton, his three grandchildren Kassandra, Shane and Spencer Houghton, nephew Jody Wellborn, and several cousins. Mark was preceded in death by his mother Marian Payne-Houghton and Uncle William S. Houghton.
He will be missed and will live on in our heart's forever. Cremation has taken place and services will be held at St. James Episcopal Church officiated by Father Salazar on February 13, 2004 at 10:30 a.m.
A special thanks to the Hospice staff who cared for him in his time of need. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Mesilla Valley Hospice.

Frank Everett Houghton went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 21, 2006 at the age of 86 at Mesilla Valley Hospice surrounded by his loving family. Frank was born on February 3, 1920 in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, born to Allison G. Houghton and Laura E. (Brown) Houghton. He met Marian Payne in Eugene, Oregon and was married on August 23, 1952. Frank lived in Massachusetts, Washington State, Oregon, Virginia, California, Idaho and also in Yukon, Canada. He had been to every state but Hawaii. He attended Hoser Elementary School in Fitchburg, MA from September 1925 until June 1932, grades 1 through 8 except grade 6 which he skipped. He attended B.F. Brown Junior High School September 1932 until June 1933, to grade 9 in Fitchburg, MA; attended Fitchburg High School from September 1934 until June 1936, grades 10-12. Part of 1935 and 1936 classes were held in B.F. Brown School, because a fire destroyed the high school in Fitchburg, MA.

He attended Fitchburg State Teachers College from September 1936 until June 1941 where he earned his Masters Degree. He also attended Florida State University from May to June 1965, taking courses in Climatology; attended U.S. Department of Agriculture Graduate School, Washington, D.C. from 1956-1958, taking courses in Hydrology and Dynamic Meteorology; Massachusetts Institute of Technology June 1960 two week course in technical writing, University of Virginia Extension course in Arlington Virginia and Bailey's Crossroads 1953-1955, branches in Engineering Physics 1959-1960: Correspondence Course in Meteorology, Pennsylvania State University 1958; Army Air Force Technical Training Center, Chanute Field, Rantoul, Illinois 1945; SCR-658 and Radiosonde Operator course, Army Air Force Paine Field, Everett, Washington; on-station weather observer training April-May 1942; Elementary Probability and Statistics New Mexico State University unofficial audit of course 1969; Silver Jewelry making Southwest Crafts Center, Las Cruces, New Mexico January-March 1974. He was in the Army from January 1942 until January 1946 as a Meteorologist and State Climatologist, also a WW2 vet, U.S. Army Honorable Discharged on January 30, 1946. He is retired as a Climatologist, retiring in 1976.

He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church 1967 until 2006. He is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth (Houghton) Wellborn and husband William; also grandsons Jody R. Wellborn, Brian J. Houghton and wife Jessica and Frank E. Houghton all of Las Cruces, New Mexico; great-grandchildren Shane, Spencer, and Kassandra Houghton, also sister-in-law Margueritte (Shea) Houghton of Fitchburg, Massachusetts; and by many cousins. Frank is preceded in death by his parents, Allison G. Houghton and Laura E. (Brown) Houghton, stepmother Minnie B (Browning) Houghton, wife Marian (Payne) Houghton, son Mark A. Houghton, brother William S. Houghton.⁴
