Derl Wayne Houghton, 70, passed away August 25, 2011 in Weatherford. He was born July 8, 1941 in Palo Pinto County the son of Richard Ivan and Donnie Mae Houghton. He married Rebecca Scott on March 10, 2007 in Perrin. He had lived in Perrin for the past 8 years and was a member of the Church of Christ in Aledo. He was a veteran of the US Navy. Services will be 10 AM Saturday, August 27, 2011 in the Galbreaith Pickard Chapel in Weatherford with Kenton Harvey officiating. Burial will follow in East Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation is Friday from 6-8 PM at Baum-Carlock-Bumgardner Funeral Home. He is survived by his wife: Rebecca Houghton of Perrin, children: Melissa of La Port, Gary of Weatherford, Kellie of Houston, Pam of Aledo, Clint of Nashville, Tennessee, Troy of Hudson Oaks, Chad of Stephenville, Becky of Weatherford, Carle of Weatherford, 21 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, brothers: Jackie Houghton of Mineral Wells, Joe Elmore of Mt. Pleasant, Lester Elmore of Perrin, and sister: Ruby Vaughn of River Oaks. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Biography

Derl Houghton: Derl is retired from 30 Years of Federal Service (Navy, Dept of Labor, & Dept of Defense). Degrees in Fire Science and Safety Engineering. Worked as Fireman, Law Enforcement, Safety Engineer. Currently Retired & Self Employed as Owner of Houghton & Associates Consultants (Safety Consultant). He and most of his family are members of the Church of Christ. Raised 6 Children and has 10 Grandchildren. His greatest accomplishment is to have successfully raised his children without major incident. He loves, cherishes and is dedicated to his children and grandchildren. He is a sensitive, caring, and compassionate person and places great value in his personal relationship to his family origin and treasures the wisdom received from family members in a continuous line back to his grandparents, all of which have made an impact on his beliefs, work ethic, and personal pride. He is typical of the traditional Houghton Family Motto: "In Spite of Wrong" He believes that when things go wrong, one must make the best of a bad situation by turning it into something good, and never look back. He taught his children the value of a dollar, good work ethic, responsibility, and that "everything has a place and should be in it".⁴
