Houghton, Franklin 92, retired Internal Revenue Agent, died peacefully on February 8, 2014 from natural causes. He was born on October 28, 1921 in Boston, Massachusetts, the son and only child of Luther H. Houghton and Margaret Otis Houghton. He graduated with a B.A. degree from Amherst College in 1943 and received his Master's from Rollins College Crummer School of Business in 1969. He was a senior IRS agent in Orlando for 39 years, retiring in 1995. During his career, he participated in many civil and criminal income tax cases and served as an expert witness in several high profile trials. After graduation from college, Frank was commissioned in the U.S. Navy and taught naval R.O.T.C. at Tufts University during World War II where he met his future wife, Gloria Rockwood Houghton. They married in 1946, and moved to Winter Park in 1955 where they raised their three children. He remained active in the Naval Reserve and was the commanding officer of the Orlando Naval Reserve unit, retiring as a Lt. Commander after 20 years. He also taught taxation at the Crummer School of Rollins College as an adjunct professor for many years. He was active in community affairs and served as President of the Maitland Shores Civic Association. In addition, he served on the Board of the Council for International Visitors, hosting international students from all over the world in their home. He was also a member of The University Club of Winter Park, Stag Club, R.O.M.E.O., and the English Speaking Union. He was a faithful member of All Saints Episcopal Church. He is predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Gloria Houghton. He is survived by their three children, Ken Houghton (Sally); Betsy Houghton Fulmer (Frank); and Deborah Houghton Schmidt (Emmett). Also surviving are his ten grandchildren, David Houghton (Terri), Laura Houghton Coleman (Jamie), John Houghton (Stephanie), Sarah Houghton Geer (Stephen), Amy Fulmer (Liz Chavez), Eden Fulmer, Elizabeth Fulmer Sullivan (Bob), Benjamin Schmidt (Stephanie), Meredith Schmidt Edelstein (Jason), and Daniel Schmidt. He now has nine great grandchildren, Thomas Coleman, William Coleman, Henry Houghton, Hamilton Houghton, Caroline Houghton, Cole Connell, Anna Grace Sullivan, Sarah Sullivan, and Kennedy Sullivan plus three more on the way. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 3:00 p.m. in Duxbury Hall at The Mayflower, 1620 Mayflower Ct, Winter Park, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the National Parkinson Foundation at 200 S.E. 1st Street, Miami, FL 33131.
