He drove 6 horse stage coaches into the White Mountains of New Hampshire. He was at Three Rivers, Canada for 3 years after Dorothy was born. His daughter Gretchen called him "A wanderer." During his life in the Adirondacks, he worked for (great grandfather) John McGinn (his boss) at Finch and Pruyn Co.1

TUPPER LAKE - C. Harold Houghton died suddenly et 8 pm. Sunday at his home here. Mr. Houghton was cashier of the Tupper Lake National Bank before his retirement in February of this year.
Survivors are his wife, the former Ada Tucker; a son, Harold, and two grandsons, of Syracuse; a brother, Robert Houghton of Baltimore, Md.. and three sisters. Mrs. Harlan Fish of Indian Lake. Mrs. John Cunningham and Miss Elizabeth Houghton of Glens Falls.
