Appointment of Dr. Houghton Holliday as acting associate dean of the School of Dental and Oral Surgery of Columbia University, was announced yesterday by Dr. Nicholas Murray Butler, president of the university. Dr. Holliday succeeds Dr. Arthur T. Rowe, who with Dr. Paul Wiberg, was slain Dec. 12 by Victor Koussow, a deranged laboratory worker.
Dr. Holliday was associated with the Mayo Brothers Clinic during 1918 and 1919 and served as superintendent of the University of Minnesota College of Dentistry from 1919 until 1922. He went to Columbia in 1928.
He is a member of the First District Dental Society, the New York State and American Dental Associations and the New York Academy of Dentistry, and is vice president of the Omicron Kappa Epsilon professional fraternity.3

Born in Boston, Harry was raised in Weston, MA. He was a graduate of St. George's School and Williams College, after which he served in the US Army. He was predeceased by his parents Marcia (Clark) and Henry O. Houghton. Harry was the great-grandson of Henry O. Houghton, founder of Houghton Mifflin Company, and the fourth publisher in direct line to proudly bear the same name. Unlike his forebears, Harry spent his professional career at the publishing house Little, Brown and Company, in New York and Boston. He was a volunteer at Emerson Hospital, the American Cancer Society, and the John F. Kennedy Library. He is survived by his wife Jeanette, children Holles (Patrick Swindell) of Brooklyn, NY and Henry, III of Cambridge, MA, his sister, Patricia Dougans of Luray, VA, and his granddaughter Beatrice Swindell. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made, in his name, to St. George's School, P.O. Box 1910, Newport, RI 02840

LATRASH Latrash, Frederick W., 76, of Coral Springs, Florida, died Thursday, July, 11, 2002 of Pulmonary Fibrosis. Born a member of the "Greatest Generation" on Nov. 29, 1925, in New Rochelle, NY, Fred Latrash embodied the creativity of his artist mother, Frederika, and the brilliance of his physician father, Herbert. After attending high school with his brother. John at Elsinore Military Academy an San Diego, CA, Fred moved to the Univ. of So. California and Univ. of California in LA. where he graduated in order to participate in WWII. He was commissioned as an Ensign in the US Navy on July 1, 1943 and was assigned as a landing craft squadron commander and Naval liaison officer overseas. He followed his military service with over 35 years in the Central Intelligence Agency where he reached the level of Senior Intelligence Service Officer. His dedication to a life of service to something greater than himself spanned nearly a half-century and the entire globe-including 12 countries in the Far Fast, Middle East, and the Americas. He instilled a sense of commitment to service and adventure in his three children. Fred will join his son-John Arthur Latrash who predeceased him in 1991 and his Brother-John Fox Latrash who also predeceased him in 2001. An adoring husband, inspirational father and grandfather, proud American, and aspiring author, he will be remembered and survived by his loving family; wife and soul-mate, Teresa P. Latrash of Coral Springs, FL; children, Frederick Latrash of Alexandria, VA, Teresa L. Burke of Gladwynne, PA; children-in-law Kevin L. Burke, Melanie M. Latrash; grandchildren Brianna, Andrew, Annie-Laurie; and an unborn grandchild Marina Frederika. Family will receive friends from 3 to 6 PM on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Kraeer Funeral Home at 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs (954) 753-8960.
