Anna Frances Houghton, 79, of Springfield and formerly of Normal, died at 7:55 p.m. Friday (Nov. 29, 1996) at St. John's Hospital, Springfield. Her funeral will be at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Staab Funeral Home, Springfield, the Rev. Mark Johnson officiating. Burial will be at 12:30 p.m. Monday at East Lawn Memorial Gardens, Bloomington. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.

Surviving are her husband, John Edgar Houghton, Springfield; two sons, Ellis "Alec" D. Wade, Springfield, and Richard "Rick" B. Wade, Thousand Oaks, Calif; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchidlren; and two sisters, Rosie Durham, Lincoln, Neb., and Beverly Gibson, Memphis, Tenn.

ObituaryDec 31, 2007ATLANTA -- Delmar D. Houghton, 98, of Springfield, formerly of Atlanta, died at 8:55 p.m. Friday (Dec. 28, 2007) at Memorial Medical Center in Springfield.

The funeral for Mr. Houghton will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Quiram Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta, with the Rev. John Horner officiating.

Visitation will be from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery in rural Atlanta.

Memorials may be made to the Liberty Baptist Church of Minier or the Atlanta Public Library and will be accepted at the funeral home.

Mr. Houghton was born on Dec. 10, 1909, in rural Atlanta, the son of John B. and Parrie Hieronymus Houghton. He married Opal Marie McMurry on Dec. 10, 1937, in Warrensburg, Mo. She preceded him in death on Feb. 27, 2002.

Mr. Houghton is survived by his daughter, Darlene Fulk of Springfield; two sons, John (Kristina) Houghton of St. Louis, Mo., and Daryl (Ann) Houghton of Millsboro, Del; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Houghton was preceded in death by three brothers and his parents.

Mr. Houghton was a well-known farmer in Missouri and central Illinois, where he operated the family farm at Atlanta from 1947 until his retirement in 1997. He also spent 20 years with the USDA Agriculture Stabilization and Conservation Service in Lincoln, in the crop compliance program and later as a bin site supervisor for a 10-county area. For the past seven years he has resided with his daughter in Springfield5

Visitation will be held on Monday, November 24, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.
Funeral services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with Pastor John Horner officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Burial will be in Mountjoy Cemetery in rural Atlanta.
Darlene is survived by two brothers: John (Kristina) Houghton of St. Louis and Daryl (Ann) Houghton of Millsboro, Del; two nieces: Lori and Kelly; and one nephew: Robert. She was preceded in death by her parents.
Darlene Houghton was born on August 18, 1939, in Knob Noster, Missouri, the daughter of Delmar and Opal McMurry Houghton. Darlene graduated from Atlanta High School. She was a beautician for many years. and then worked for
the State of Illinois for 8 years. Memorial donations may be made to American Cancer Society.
Final arrangements are entrusted with Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home in Atlanta.

ObituaryEldon E. Houghton, 87, a retired agricultural statistician, died at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 3, 1999 of complications resulting from Alzheimer’s Disease. He had been a resident of ManorCare in Westerville, Ohio, since August, 1998. The son of John B. and Parrie M. Hieronymus Houghton, Eldon Houghton
was born on the family farm west of Atlanta in Eminence Township, Logan County, Illinois, June 1, 1911. He graduated from Atlanta High School in 1929
and earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Illinois. He married Bernadine Thompson August 6, 1936. After teaching
at Dunlap High School for eight years, Houghton began his career with the U. S. Department of Agriculture in 1942. His work, which focused
on crop estimates and agricultural marketing, took him to Springfield, IL, Columbus, OH, and Washington, DC. Following his retirement in 1976,
Eldon and Bernadine lived in Columbus and in Port Richey, Florida. In 1995, they relocated to the Worthington Christian Colony on the north
edge of Columbus, Ohio. Eldon Houghton has been an active member of Christian churches wherever he has lived, often serving as financial secretary and deacon. Most recently, he was a member of the Worthington Christian Church. Houghton is survived by his wife, Bernadine of Columbus, daughter
Carolyn Chapman (husband, Samuel) of Reno, NV; granddaughters Laura Hughes Wynia (husband, Scott) of Hilliard, OH and Lisa Hughes Campbell (husband,
Jeff) of Brookpark, OH; and seven great grandchildren: Nathanael, Benjamin, Elisabeth, and Timothy Wynia; and Brian, Rebecca, and David Campbell. He is also survived by two brothers, Paul (wife, Louisa) Houghton of Marion, IL and Delmar (wife, Opal) of Atlanta, IL, and several nieces and nephews.

Obituary2011Bernadine T. Houghton, 94, a retired homemaker, died of pneumonia at 5:48 p.m. Friday, March 25, 2011, in Columbus, Ohio, having been ill only two days. The loving care provided by the staff of Worthington Christian Village was greatly appreciated by Bernadine and her family. She had been a resident since April 2003 and in the skilled care unit since December 2008.
The daughter of Roy and Mona Bishop Thompson, Bernadine was born on the family farm in Eminence Township, Logan County, Ill., July 17, 1916. She graduated from Atlanta Community High School in 1934 and, in the fall of 1934, went to Gregg Business College in Chicago to study secretarial science. The program was competency-based, so she graduated when she passed exams in typing, shorthand, and business English. Bernadine worked for Frank Bevan in Atlanta as a legal secretary for two years prior to her August 6, 1936 marriage to Eldon E. Houghton.
Over the years, due to his employment, Bernadine and Eldon lived in Dunlap, Illinois; Springfield, Illinois; Falls Church, Virginia; and Columbus, Ohio. Following retirement, they lived for 13 years in Port Richey, Florida. In 1995, they moved to Worthington Christian Colony on the north edge of Columbus, Ohio.
Throughout her life, Bernadine was a member of Christian churches, often serving as pianist, organist, and Sunday school teacher. She generously shared her skills as musician, seamstress, gardener, and flower arranger with family and friends. She was a Girl Scout leader in Springfield, Illinois, Grove City, Ohio, and Falls Church, Virginia. Mrs. Houghton is survived by her daughter, Carolyn Chapman (husband, Samuel) of Reno, Nevada; grand-daughters, Laura Hughes Wynia (husband, Scott) of Hilliard, Ohio, and Lisa Hughes Kouta (husband Ehab) of Brooklyn, New York, 8 great grandchildren, Nathanael, Benjamin, Elisabeth, Timothy, and Stephanie Wynia, Brian and David Campbell, and Rebecca Boggs. She is also survived by her brother, Jim Thompson (wife Marian) of Atlanta, Illinois, and 8 nieces and nephews.
Family will receive friends from 2 to 3 p.m., Sunday, April 3, 2011, at Quiram-Peasley Funeral Home, 202 NW Vine Street, Atlanta, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Burial will be on Monday morning, April 4, at Mountjoy Cemetery in Logan County, Illinois. Contributions may be made to Eminence Christian Church, P. O. Box 478, Atlanta, Illinois 61723.

ObituaryMrs. Elsa Houghton, 88, of 605 W. Washington St. died at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 1966, at Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Houghton was born in Hillsdale, Kan., the daughter of Marion D. and Miranda [sic] Keys Goldsby. Her husband, Lynn, a prominent farmer in the Petersburg area, preceded her in death in 1950. She was a member of West Side Christian Church. Surviving are one son, Hersel of Springfield; one daughter, Mrs. Hedessa McFarland of Springfield; one grandson. Services were at Staab Funeral Home. Burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
