DeathMar 22, 1775Brattleboro, Windham Co., VT, USA, William French was killed and Daniel Houghton was mortally wounded, both of Dummerston, VT, on Mar. 13, 1775, in an attempt of the Whigs, or Liberty Men, to prevent the holding of court by the New York officers. French was the first martyr of the Revolution. Daniel Houghton was removed the following morning to the house of Eleazer Harlow, a short distance from the court house where he died 9 days latter.
BurialCourt House Yard, Westminster, Windham Co., VT, USA, DAR marker erected in 1902; MLM visited his grave in 1934.
